It's no secret that one of our favorite hobbies is scouring the internet for gaming news. Finding the latest and greatest in DLC, new releases, and prototypes is a thrill akin to obtaining the Master Sword: incredibly satisfying.
We're a month in to 2020, and the newest titles are already sharing their news, updates, pre-order deals and more. We've rounded up the top games you should get when they release in 2020, and why they matter:
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
We like to respect the most admired titles and place them first on the list. Animal Crossing has taken a long 7 year break between main titles; New Leaf was Nintendo's last Animal Crossing game. The fans have been starved of updates and hints at a new title until late 2018 when the first announcement was made.
From there, lack of updates left us all confused. A delay on the game's release caused a minor uproar, but the fans are as peaceful as the game play itself and grew to appreciate why it was pushed back.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is set to be released on March 20, 2020 (which is also the International Day of Happiness). Pre-orders have already launched and are continuing to be released over the next week, so snag your copy while you still can!
Ori and the Will of Wisps
I saw this game series evolve at PAX West for two years in a row, slowly watching the developers continue to work on this masterpiece collection of visual art. The game itself has an incredible feel to it, following a unique platform strategy that's both challenging and enchanting. While your logic may be frustrated, your mind will be soothed by the ethereal visuals on your screen. If you played the first Ori game, you'll appreciate seeing more of the world that Ori inhabits.
Ori and the Will of Wisps is released on March 11, 2020 for PC and Xbox One only. This video game is a must have for anyone looking for an entirely new take on gaming.
If there's a title I have seen a boat load of hype for on Twitter, it's Half-Life: Alyx. Most fans are ready to see what happened between Half-Life and Half-Life 2, while others are just eager to step into a new video game. Fans need not worry, the game has been Valve's biggest project yet, and their testing is completed. The game duration is reportedly as long as Half-Life 2, meaning you'll get a good deal from this release.
Half-Life: Alyx is estimated to be released in March 2020, however, players can enjoy older Half-Life games while they wait for Alyx. The game is reported to be free to anyone who owns Valve Index hardware in 2020.
Ion Lands is producing indie show-stopper Cloudpunk, a pixel-perfect (see what we did there?) proposition where you're placed in Nivalis, a city unlike any other, to deliver to a wide variety of characters. Game play is energizing without the burn out of an adrenaline rush. Your life as a courier has never looked this stylish-- or addicting.
Cloudpunk is currently awaiting release on Steam, estimated for an early 2020 release.
